As a 25-year corporate veteran, Tonja Sasser-Bonds built a long-standing Human Resources career centered on the needs, successes and advancement for people. Working for some of the biggest name brands in the world, she spent over two decades, learning, consulting and researching the inner workings of team performance, employee engagement and impactful leadership. In 2020, as an executive HR leader, the devastating world pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement had a significant effect on her mental health, physical well-being and social engagement that completely redirected the trajectory of her future. The growing demands of an unprecedented time and changing workforce began to hinder her mental health. Feeling trapped in a vicious cycle of being overworked, anxious, and stressed...burnout was inevitable. It reflected in her work, attitude, marriage and overall family life. Tonja felt helpless, but knew she was not alone. To her knowledge, there was no roadmap available to help navigate these emotions and make meaningful steps that would improve her health and regain quality of life. Too afraid to say something for fear of judgement, she lived with critical burnout in silence for 3 years.
So in 2023, when Tonja's corporate role was eliminated, it was bitter sweet. Over time, she began to accept this defining moment as a precious gift from the universe. She knew she had a bigger calling that could inspire real change for leadership culture all over the world. Embracing her entrepreneurial spirit, Tonja founded Culture Bonds, LLC to provide consulting services for small to medium sized companies to help build healthy team cultures that could scale and thrive. Foundationally, Tonja believes that extraordinary leaders are fostered and grown from within an organization. In her experience, great leaders can become ineffective in a toxic work culture while bad leaders are tolerated at a cost. Therefore, turnover, burnout and performance challenges are the symptoms to a deeper-rooted disorder of an unstable culture.
In addition to consulting, Tonja sits on the advisory board of Hypno Loops which is the first meditation app of its kind enabling users to record, personalize and share meditations in seconds to high definition soundscapes. As a keynote leadership speaker and coach, her mission is to help female leaders break through burnout by designing a life strategy to regain personal power balanced on well-being, purpose, and leadership legacy.
