The Flavor Room™ Announces "Leading in Color", a Virtual Leadership Experience for Black and Brown Leaders

Black and Brown leaders know how to adapt. They have built businesses with limited access to capital, created community programs while funding changed around them, and learned how to lead inside institutions that were not designed with them in mind. But founders Sutton C. McCraney and Lace Flowers believe adaptation isn't a viable strategy to thrive. On October 29, their company, The Flavor Room™, will host the inaugural Leading in Color™, a four-hour virtual leadership experience for Black and Brown founders, executives, professionals, decision-makers, and community builders. The event is centered on one question: How do Black and Brown leaders move from continually adapting to intentionally designing stronger systems, relationships, and institutions within our communities?

“We have become incredibly skilled at finding another way when policies change, funding disappears, or an institution changes its priorities,” said McCraney. “That resourcefulness is part of our strength. But we also need room to ask what we could build if more of our time, knowledge, money, and relationships were directed toward things our communities can influence and sustain.” That is the conversation Leading in Color was created to hold.

The event will not focus on helping Black and Brown leaders fit more successfully into existing systems. It will examine where continued dependence has left communities vulnerable, what is already being built, and how leaders can use the influence and resources they have now to strengthen that work. “We didn't create Leading in Color because Black and Brown communities lack ideas or leadership,” said Flowers. “There are people doing powerful work everywhere. The challenge is that many of them are building separately, carrying too much alone, or remaining disconnected from the relationships and resources that could help their work go further.”

The experience will also include a candid panel discussion, guided leadership roundtables, and a closing catalyst. During the roundtables, participants will move beyond talking broadly about what needs to change. They will examine recurring patterns within their communities, question where too much control has been placed in outside systems, and identify the role they are personally positioned to play. Every participant will receive the LEGIT Community Design Blueprint, a practical resource designed to help them capture what they uncover during the event and turn those insights into a clearer next step.

"Leading in Color" is not being presented as a one-day solution to challenges that have developed over generations. It is a starting point for a different kind of leadership conversation—one that does not begin with asking how Black and Brown people can keep adjusting to what happens around them. It begins by asking what they are willing to build together.

The inaugural event asks what Black and Brown communities can build and strengthen when continually adapting to systems outside their control is no longer enough. "Leading in Color" will take place virtually on October 29, 2026, 12:00pm–4:00 p.m. ET, and is limited to the first 50 participants. Registration is $49.
