Lazar has become a powerful source of inspiration for many in Detroit and its surrounding communities. Over the last decade, he has sponsored hundreds of high school students on HBCU college tours, helping them discover new educational opportunities. Additionally, he has provided mentorship to emerging businesses, offering strategic advice and guidance for creating effective business plans. His ongoing initiative, "everydayimok.com," promotes self-affirmation through a positive apparel brand. Through this campaign, Lazar has mentored and consulted hundreds of individuals dealing with issues like low self-esteem, cancer survivorship, and the effects of teenage bullying. One particularly poignant encounter occurred when a young man, inspired by Lazar's "IMOK!" shirt, approached him in a store. After complimenting the shirt, Lazar took off his everydayimok bracelet and placed it on the young man's wrist, holding his hand as he said, "You are exactly what you tell yourself every day." The young man, moved to tears, revealed that he had previously attempted to harm himself and was contemplating another attempt. Gratefully, he said, "You just saved me, and I am OK!" This is just one of many transformative stories that highlight Lazar's profound impact.
In addition to his mentoring efforts, Lazar is the co-owner of Trinity Films Entertainment Group, which oversees The Detroit Black Film Festival, now in its sixth year, and the Trinity International Film Festival, which has been running for 19 years. Both festivals provide workshops and masterclasses designed to engage communities interested in the film and television industry, serving as essential platforms for amplifying the voices and stories of African American filmmakers and entrepreneurs.
Lazar has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to community service throughout his life. He dedicated five years to volunteering at Covenant House, where he not only participated in but also sponsored the "Sleep Out" event to raise awareness and support for homeless youth. His passion for community development extends to his work with the Black Bottom Group, where he leads financial literacy and apparel design summer programs for young people.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lazar collaborated with Black-owned restaurants and nonprofit organizations to ensure that food and essential supplies were provided to those in need. His proactive approach and dedication to uplifting his community highlight his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.
