Dr. Ralph J. Hughes is a transformational leadership strategist, renowned leadership trainer, and acclaimed author of The Thinking Leader: Effective Lessons for Everyday Leadership and From Fear to Freedom: Conquering Public Speaking with Emotional Intelligence. As the dynamic host of the Lead with Dr. Ralph Hughes podcast, he inspires global audiences to unlock their leadership potential and lead with boldness, confidence, and authenticity.
A proud native of Harlem, New York City, Dr. Hughes brings over 30 years of combined experience as a leadership practitioner and educator. His unique blend of practical insight and academic expertise stems from a distinguished career as a professor of higher education, a retired senior federal law enforcement officer who oversaw national training initiatives, and the former CEO of a successful leadership consulting firm, which he led for more than a decade.
Dr. Hughes has delivered hundreds of impactful lectures, seminars, and workshops—transforming thousands of lives across diverse industries. His areas of expertise include leadership, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, public speaking, and criminal justice. He has provided keynote speeches and training for organizations such as Broward Health, Re/Max, The Diplomat Golf & Tennis Club, Progressive Insurance, and the YMCA. He has spoken at premier venues including the Amerant Bank Arena, the Watsco Center, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, and the African American Cultural Center.
He holds a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership from Regent University, a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Mercy University, a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Nyack College, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Criminology. His research interests include African American studies, health and wellness, mindset, servant leadership, and emotional intelligence.
Beyond the classroom and the stage, Dr. Hughes is also an accomplished actor. Since 1988, he has appeared in blockbuster films, television shows, and commercials, sharing scenes with numerous Hollywood A-listers. He continues to book roles in Miami, Atlanta, and Tennessee while also writing screenplays and training in method acting.
In his free time, Dr. Hughes enjoys Krav Maga, screenwriting, biking along the beach, and living out the very principles he teaches—discipline, creativity, and wellness.
